Homework: April 26

Honors English 11 (F and B blocks)
(F block folks, I forgot to collect your multiple choice handout at the end of class. Bring it in tomorrow and I'll collect it!)

  • Read “Beginning” and write response:
    • Both stories are about a main “character” (one fictional, one real) getting a draft notice and making a decision to go to war. In one-two paragraphs, explain how each text tells the story, then, in a final paragraph, decide what you think:
    • WHICH STORY DOES A MORE EFFECTIVE JOB OF HELPING READERS UNDERSTAND THE EXPERIENCE OF RECEIVING A DRAFT NOTICE AND DECIDING WHAT TO DO?

Honors English 12 (G block)

  • WORK ON YOUR ESSAY. SERIOUSLY.

English 11 (A block)
  • Finish reading chapter 7, and finish your Chapter 7 POWER map. A reminder of the guidelines is here:

Homework: April 25

Honors English 12 (G block)

You don't have to add them to your chart yet. Just put a G+ when Gatsby gains power, a G- when he loses some, a T+/T- for Tom. Be prepared to talk about it tomorrow!
  • Start studying your vocabulary--we'll have a quiz on Friday.

Honors English 11 (B block)
  • Finish your "On the Rainy River" map.
  • Start studying your vocabulary--we'll have a quiz on Friday.

English 12 (D block)
  • We'll have a seminar discussion on Juno and Frankenstein on Wednesday. You need to make notes (a web/mindmap/bulleted list/etc.) to prepare. Consider these questions:
DISCUSSION PROMPT: What do these texts, in combination, tell us? Consider essential questions, as well as the nature of growing up, issues of coming of age, and the roles and responsibilities of parents.  Our essential questions are: 1. What turning points in our lives determine our individual paths to adulthood? 2. How do our families of origin, friends, societies, & psychologies shape our morals & values? 3. What does it mean to be an adult?  How do you know when you are one?.
  •  If you haven't completed the "Stranger in the Photo is Me" pre-writing activity (handout), do so for Wednesday.
