Your assignment: In a comment on this post, please write a response that's at least 4 sentences. In this response, share:
- The title and author of the book you're currently reading for independent reading (or, one you've read recently if you're involved in book club right now!)
- How/why you chose the book you did.
- A really quick overview of the book so far.
- Your opinion so far--what do you think about it? Does it remind you of any other books you've read?
I'll start here:
At the end of last year, I started reading a book called The Secret Side of Empty by Maria Andreau. I saw this book displayed in a bookstore--it was a bit of a "judging the book by its cover" situation, but in a good way. I checked reviews online and they looked good, so I went for it. It's about a girl named MT who's starting her senior year in high school. Her family immigrated to the US from Argentina when MT was a baby, So far, the narrative voice is really compelling, as is the dynamic that's established between MT and her friends. MT is a really interesting character with a very important story. It's a great read!
I'm in the middle of reading this great book "Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know" by Alexandra Horowitz. I won't be able to continue reading it until next week, however, because it is at my dad's house. I am obsessed with my own dog, Cookie so my dad recommended the book to me. The book is nonfiction and takes you into the world of a dog. It describes in depth their sensory capabilities, especially their olfactory ones. Once Horowitz teaches you how dogs perceive the world, she begins explaining how they interpret the world. This book will make you appreciate and love your dog even more than you thought possible!
ReplyDeleteThe current book I am reading is Carole King's memoir, A Natural Woman. I chose this book because I saw the musical based on her life this April, and was interested in finding out more about her life because I realized I knew much more of her music than I initially thought I did. I have not only learned the story of her music success, but other aspects of King's life including her family life as a child, the nature of her relationships with her past husbands, and her life as an activist. So far the memoir has been an enjoyable read and I have learned more about the eras King has lived through and the people she has encountered. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in music from the 60s and 70s especially James Taylor.
ReplyDeleteTowards the end of the school year last year, I started reading a book called The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones written by Cassandra Clare. I don't remember how it happened but all of a sudden I just stopped reading the book all together, so I've decided to go back and read the series. I really enjoy reading books about science-fiction/fantasy/dystopian societies, so I thought this would be a good read for me, also I've heard the movie is great. The novel is about a girl named Clary who discovers unimaginable information about her family and herself that would seem as if it's a fairy tale, but it's not. Clary meets more and more people throughout the series and relationships begin to form among the characters. She discovers more inconceivable information throughout the series as well. I am really enjoying this book so far, except for the fact that it is in third person, I prefer books that I read in the first person so I can see and feel what it's like to be in their shoes and it helps you connect more with the character. Overall, it seems like a great read.

My IR book is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. My mom and one of my friends both recommended it to me and I thought it would be interesting to read because they both liked it. I was wary about reading it at first because it is a memoir, a genre I usually do not like, but so far, it is interesting. I am only a few chapters in, but so far the author’s voice and experiences are very interesting. I am intrigued by the relationship she had with her alcoholic, nomadic parents and her view on how they raised her.
ReplyDeleteSo far this year and I am reading the book, Paper Towns by John Green. I chose this book because it was a book that many people have read and told me I should read it because it interested them. So far in this book, it is about a girl and a boy, Margo and Q, and Margo takes him on an adventure of revenge at night and then the next day she goes missing and is starting to leave clues for Q to come find her. So far I like this book and I think it is mainly because I like the way John Green writes and his fictional stories always seem to interest me.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm reading The Heir by Kiera Cass, it's the fourth book in "The Selection Series". I started the first book of the series last year, and honestly I picked it because it was free on iBooks and looked interesting. I fell in love with the series almost immediately, and finished the first three books fairly quickly. This book came out in May, but I hadn't had the chance to read it yet, so I'm just starting it now. This book tells the story of the main characters' daughter, and how she is handling her role as the future queen. I'm not very far in, but so far I like it because it has a very different perspective and plot from the first three books, but it's written in a similar style that I enjoy. It's also fun to see the original characters, who were teens before, now acting as parents and hearing from their daughter about what she thinks their lives are like.
ReplyDeleteI started reading a book called "A Bend in the Road" by Nicholas Sparks. I got the book for my birthday at the end of the school year, but I didn't start reading it until a few weeks after summer started. "A Bend in the Road" is about a man named Miles Ryan whose wife died in a hit and run. And I know Nicholas Sparks may be just some silly romance author, but I think he actually is a very good writer, despite the content of most of his books. I think he puts a lot of time and thought into what he writes, and I especially loved this book because he didn't just focus on the romance between Miles and his son Jonah's second grade teacher, Sarah. (This is a common theme he writes about.) In the story, he also focuses on whether Miles will find the person who killed his wife. I recommend this book if you like twisted plots and suspenseful story lines. I also recommend this book if you find it interesting when narration is done by someone other than a main character. If you like Nicholas Sparks' books, you will most definitely enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteI am currently in the middle of reading, "The Scorch Trials" by James Dashner. I chose this book because I read the first book in the series, "The Maze Runner" and saw the movie, so I wanted to continue the series and read the second book, before I see the second movie. So far, the book is about the gladers who made it out of the maze, and are now trapped inside a new series of the experiment where they'll be infected with a disease and put into the scorch, and the only way to survive the infection is to make it through to the end of the scorch. So far I am really enjoying this book! There are a lot of cliff hangers and all I want to do is keep reading it. I really like the authors style of writing, as well as his use of dialogue. He likes to keep you wondering and questioning. For instance, why certain characters are the way they are, or why the creators are doing what they're doing.
ReplyDeleteSo at the moment, I am reading the book, The Great Bridge,The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge by David McCullough. I chose this book becuase I have an interest in history and engineering and this is about the both those things. So far the book has talked about the plans for the bridge and the drawn out ideas for the bridge and the importance it has on the city of New York. It has also started to get into detailed about the designer John Roebling and how he use his knowledge he gain for Germany and use on the design of the Brooklyn Bridge. So far I like this book becuase like to learn about the things that have in the past and I like to understand the thoughts and reasoning behind the people who did this events and so far this book has been able to do that.
ReplyDeleteCurrently, I am reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I wanted to read this book for a while since my mother always watches the movie, and I know that it is a classic book. The book is organized into different letters which the protagonist, Celie, writes to God regarding her status as a young black women in 1930s Georgia. Celie narrates the story through her letters, describing the difficult situations she faces when confronted by other men and their abusive naturess. Walker's book reminds me of The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, which are also interesting books to read if interested in southern culture during the early twentieth century.
ReplyDeleteMy IR book right now is The Ask and the Answer, the second book in the Knife of Never Letting Go series by Patrick Ness. I chose this book because I loved the first book of the series, which I read for summer reading, and because the first book ended with a horrible cliffhanger and I just wanted to find out what happened. I literally just started the book, and not much has happened yet, but so far, Todd is bound to a chair in a dark room, presumably in Haven because that's where the first book left off, where he is being beaten by Mayor Prentiss. Nobody, besides Todd, has noise anymore, and Todd has no idea where or how Viola is. I am really enjoying the book so far; the suspense is killing me and I can't wait to read more. This series is quite honestly nothing like any book I've read before.
ReplyDeleteI started reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner at the end of last year. I picked this book because I saw the movie and I wanted to read the book. It is about a boy named Thomas who was sent up to this place and he doesn’t remember anything about his life. Everyone who has came up has never gotten out. Right now he is wondering how he is getting to know all the boys there and what the jobs are. I think that this is a good book and It's different from some of the other books that I have read.

ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading the novel, Room by Emma Donoghue. I'm not too far into the book yet but what I know so far is that there are two characters. Jack and Ma. I also know that Jack has never seen the outside world and that him and Mom live in a single room. I suspect there is a reason they live in a single room but do not know yet why because I'm not too far yet. I'm not the biggest fan of reading but I do strongly enjoy this book. It keeps me interested on every page.
Im currently reading the book Room by Emma Donoghue. Im not far in but what I do know just by the beggining stages is that the two main charachters Jack and Ma and in this Room. The room seems to be all that Jack knows. Jack is 5 years old so he talks with the intellectual of one. Jack has a name for everything in the room. Im really excited to keep reading the book and figure out why theyre in the room and who exactly Old Nick is.
ReplyDeleteBy now I am reading the book by John Green, "Paper Towns" and I chose this book because it was a very well recommended book. All my friends were talking about it so that is the main reason why I decided to read it. I am not so far in the book but so far I am loving it because it is a romantic book mixed with mystery and adventure, I feel that You should totally read it if you like adrenaline and mystery books and if you don't know the book and you are interested in reading it here is more information http://johngreenbooks.com/paper-towns/
ReplyDeleteThe book I am currently reading is "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" by Jenny Han. I chose this book because this is the sequel to the book I read over the summer which was called "P.S I Still Love You" and I really enjoyed that book so I thought I would really like this one as well. An overview of the book so far, is the main character Lara Jean who lives with her two sisters and her father. She writes letters to all of the boys in her life that she has loved. She does not send these letters but one accidentally gets mailed and everything goes out of control. I just started reading this book but so far I really like it. I am really enjoying it even though I just started it because I already understand the characters from the previous book. This book keeps me very intrigued and makes me want to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm currently reading is titled "Brain On Fire" by Susannah Cahalan. I chose this book because of my interest in the plot, which follows Susannah, an investigative reporter for The New York Times, during her "Month of Madness" in which she cannot recall an entire month of her life and is labeled a psychotic flight risk when she regains awareness. The book so far seems very promising, and I'm intrigued to learn more about the mysterious diagnosis that gave her back her identity. This book is unlike anything I've ever read and that's why I think I find it so striking.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading "Go Set a Watchman" by Harper Lee, which is her latest novel. This story is the second book of "To Kill a Mockingbird", and it takes place when Jean Louise Finch (Scout) is a grown women, maybe around her late twenty's. I chose this book because I enjoyed her first book and I was intrigued to see if she can write up another great masterpiece. I read that there was a huge plot twist in the story that did changed our thoughts of a beloved character from the first book, who we saw as a hero. As of right now, I cannot say much about the book because I have not read much, but it seems to catch my interests.
ReplyDeleteI recently read "Shopgirl" By: Steve Martin. I decided to read the book because I am a big fan of Steves and really wanted to check out more of his work. The book is about a girl named Mirabelle who works at a department store and her life, mainly her love life though. I thought that it was interesting and I liked the perspective Steve gave to the book. I am going to read the other books and stories he has written.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I read a book called Columbine by Dave Cullen. I had read it for my English class last year and revisited parts of it this summer because I found it fascinating. This book details the events leading up to, during, and after the Columbine High School shooting, which two students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, committed. Cullen collects information, reports, and interviews of victims and witnesses of the incident, and tries to figure out the motive behind why these two seemingly normal students would do this. I thought it was intense, and it effectively swayed my perception of the event because Cullen quells rumors and lies of the incident. It goes into a sociopath's mind, and while this is frightening, it is also intriguing. -Jen Kallin
ReplyDeleteThe book that I am currently reading is called Try Not to Breathe by Jennifer R. Hubbard. I didn't get that far into the book yet, but so far it is about a boy named Ryan who recently tried to take his own life but was stopped and taken to a mental hospital. He is out now and always goes to this waterfall near his house because the pressure of the water on his back is like a replacement instead of him actually hurting himself. He meets this girl named Nicky and he starts to like her and she helps him with him depression and that's as far as I got. I really like the book so far.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading the book, Thirteen Reasons Why, a novel written by Jay Asher. I chose this book because several people who had already read it recommended it to me. My friends who recommended me this book were people who have the same interests as me, and the book happened to be in Ms. McMaster’s book shelves so it was a great opportunity to finally read it. So far in the book, the main character, Clay Jensen just started listening to the tapes that Hannah Baker left behind after she committed suicide. He is appalled by the whole situation and is confused as to why he is one of the people receiving these tapes. I really enjoy reading this book so far. It is really making me think about the plot and why Clay Jensen may be one of the reasons for Hannah Baker’s death. Each time I read it I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds because it always catches my interest.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Scarlet by Melissa Meyer. I chose this book because over the summer I read Cinder as my second book and I really enjoyed it. So far what I've read is that Scarlet's grandmother has been kidnapped by someone, and Cinder has escaped the prison along with Thorne, the only American in the book. The first book Cinder has a futuristic Cinderella style to it, whiel Scarlet is Red Riding Hood. (Scarlet has really red hair and meets a character named Wolf.)
ReplyDeleteThe book I am currently reading is titled "Consumed" by Kate Cann. I chose this book between two books I was interested in, this one a Horror and the other a mystery. I love mystery books but I wanted more of a thrill and a new sensation that I haven't had before. I haven't read horror books but I am interested in it considering my thrill of fear. Not only that but horror usually comes with a sense of mystery to it anyway. The back talked about ghosts, but by the writing, it didn't seem like the main character was scared which means there is an element of the supernatural to it which is also interesting. So far, the plot hasn't met up to my expectations. The book starts with a fleeing scene and then an awkward romance scene. It was relatable but it was very confusing and kind of disinterested me. It gave background in small increments with the main character, Rayne, reflecting on what happened and I was expecting the plot to flip around then show me what happened earlier. The book did not do that and continued on, with the life of Rayne returning back to normal after her boyfriend and all her friends tried to kill her and crazy people attacked her and called out to her, but Ethan, the male attraction saved her. She reflects constantly on the story and simply restates the same details, but while that is off putting, there is some mystery and draw to what happens next with the mystery slowly creeping in and the supernatural starting to appear in rooms that feel and crazy ladies and mysterious circumstances. This book is interesting and intriguing and it slowly draws me in. I was not expecting a romance, but hopefully that will add to the lore and horror of the book. I am excited to see what will happen next.
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm currently reading is rise of the dragons. I picked this book becausa after reading the back, it seemed to be a mystery/ adventure book. The main character is very similar to Katniss from the Hunger Games. Since that book was good I figured that this book would be just as good. So far the character, Kyra is shown as an amazing hunter who cares for her little brother. She dislikes her older brothers because of their constant boasting. Kyra has some hidden powers too that are revealed when she confronts a boar that attempts to hurt her little brother. The author of this book is Morgan Rice.
ReplyDeleteThe title of my book is The Astronaut Wives Club by Lily Koppel. I picked this book because my mom was wanted me to watch the show with her because their is a show on ABC I think that is based off of this book. I did watch one episode and then I realized that it was a book so I decided to give it a try. So the book is set up into missions because each of the wife's husband belonged to a different space mission, so the women are separated into different missions. The story follows each women through their experience, of how their husbands become famous. The book tells about how family life changed because of their husbands constantly being gone, but it also talks about how the women were becoming cultural icons to the general public at the time because of what their husbands are doing. The women come from being just simple wives to being very famous and constantly having to watch their image because of their husbands. So far the book is really interesting. I am really into the history of women and how it has changed overtime through culture constantly changing and I feel that this book also shows how the wives also made a huge impact on their husbands first missions to space.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am currently reading for independent reading is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I chose this book because many of my friends read this book and said it was amazing. I also I saw online that it had really good reviews and it was a great story. It is about a boy named Clay Jensen, and he receives tapes one day from a girl named Hannah Baker. He is confused when he gets them because Hannah had committed suicide. While listening to the tapes, he discovers she is explaining why she killed herself. Based on what I read so far, I really enjoy it and excited to read the other reasons why she committed suicide. I also enjoy the writing style because it is like there is two narrators, Clay, and the tapes of Hannah Baker.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of last year, I started reading a book called The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I saw the movie trailer on television and thought that I might be interested in it seeing as I have never read a John Green book before. I asked my friends who had read the book what they thought and they said it was a very good read, so I went for it. It's about a girl named Hazel Grace who is battling cancer. She ends up going to a support group where she meets Augustus Waters and Isaac. After spending time with the two boys outside of the group, she starts to fall in love with everything Augustus does and says. Throughout the course of the book, I'm left wondering what is going to happen next and it leaves me wanting to turn the pages. I don't think I've ever cried over a book so much as I did with The Fault In Our Stars.
ReplyDeleteLast year I started reading Looking For Alaska by John Green. I found this book by searching online on best seller lists for young adult novels. I had also read The Fault In Our Stars, so at the time I was looking for either another John Green book or one with a similar style. This book is about a boy named Miles that moves from his home state of Florida to attend prep school in Alabama his junior year of high school. He’s quickly nicknamed “Pudge”, although he’s actually skinny, and makes friends with his roommate Colonel and a sort of wild child girl named Alaska. Miles and Alaska become a little more than friends as Miles’ time at prep school increases. He gets more involved in his school pranking tradition and adjusts to life away from home. This book is set up into two parts: before and after. Without spoiling anything, the after is much different from the before becuase Miles’ life changes dramatically from a tragic incident. I enjoyed reading this book because it was a unique spin off of a typical high school relationship story and I’m a fan of John Green’s style.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler. I saw my cousin reading this book and she said it was really good and I recently finished the book Thirteen Reasons Why which was also written by the same author. I really liked Thirteen Reasons Why so I was like why not give The Future of Us a try. This is a romance and mystery book. The time of the book is during 1996 and at that time Facebook hasn't been created and the two main characters somehow got Facebook on their computer, they confusingly browse the website and find out things about their future. They want to believe that this is a prank, but the other half of them is telling them that this website is from the future. I am really excited to read further in to the book because I want to know what the two of them are going to do with the website and if they will try to stop or prevent things that will happen in the future or something.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I am reading Black Mass, by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'niel. I am reading it because I am interested in Whitey Bulger, and it is also amazing to think that all of this occurred only an hour away, in Boston. This book is about Whitey Bulger, an Irish gangster from South Boston. He makes a deal with an FBI agent named John Connoly. Whitey informs on the Italian Mafia located in Boston, and in return, Connoly promises his safety, no matter what crimes Whitey commits. This is already leading to Whitey using Connoly to get away with crimes and only telling Connoly only what is beneficial to himself. So far, I think that it is really interesting, but it is written sort of like a really long news paper article. There is very a small amount of character talking, and more of just a narrator of what is going on.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading Paper Towns by John Green. The movie came out in the beginning of the summer and it automatically interested me. I have read the Fault In Our Stars by John Green as well which was amazing and so I decided that reading Paper Towns was a must do. When I was in vacation in Texas with Jordan Wardle, the only thing she would do is read the book. She spoke very highly of it which only sparked the curiosity of learning what was so good about it and have now fallen in love with it. Every since I started reading, I fell in love with it. It makes me upset when I have to put it down because I could just read it forever. The story is about two teenagers, a girl and a boy. The girl, Margo, loves adventure and believes in a life outside the walls and streets of her home town, Orlando. Q, the boy, plans his future out and lives as to what Margo describes as "inside the walls." She then disappears and leaves clue for him to go find her while on the way finding himself; the true Q who lives for himself. I so far am in love with it. I feel like in some ways I can relate to the story and the characters which helped build this connection I feel for the story. I cannot wait to find out what Margo has set up for Q to still find and discover. I definitely recommend this to anyone!
ReplyDeleteIn eighth grade I had purchased a book called Sarahs Key by Tatiana Rosnay. I chose this book because at the time i was obsessed with reading books and novels about the Holocaust or about a survivors journey through it. World War II fascinated me and I wanted to learn much of it at the time and I still do. The boos cover as well looked very interesting but also the small introduction they present in the back of the book was also very intriguing to me. The book is about this little Jewish girl and her family that lived in Paris, France at the time. One day all the officials came and collected them and sent them off to camps, Now the little girl as she was trying to save her brother, she put him in a secret door in the wall where no one will find him. She then locked it thinking she will come back and save him later on after they come back from the camps but later realizes that its too late and hes stuck there. She goes on a huge journey of escaping and such to go back and save her brother. This book also has another modern day character that's looking at the little girls life years later after she died. She was a researcher trying to contact holocaust survivors. As this character was introduced so was her life and the two characters somehow connected and it all makes sense at the end. I loved the book and read it in two days. It was amazing, I am rereading it now.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I am currently reading When Dad Killed Mom by Julius Lester. I chose the book because my friend read it once and recommended it to me, and after reading the summary of it on the inside I thought it would be very interesting. I like reading about social issues such as domestic violence, which is what this book is about. I'm not too far into the book, but so far it has started off very suspenseful with the death of their mother. The book switches off perspectives every chapter between the son and the daughter and they both describe what they were doing and how they found out their mother passed. So far, it has already started off very interesting so I am excited to keep reading and find out more details about the characters and their stories!
ReplyDeleteAn independent reading book that I am currently reading right now is White Bulger by kevin Cullen and Shelley Murphy. I chose this book because it takes place in the Boston area which is right around where I live so I find this book to be very relatable to the setting of the book mostly. This book is about the serial killer and mobman Whitey Bulger who reigned terror upon Boston and other major cities across the US in the mid 1900’s. In the beginning it gives the story of the area in which Whitey grew up in and it also talks about the story of the Bulgers and how the family came to what it is. I am still in the beginning of the book and have a lot of reading ahead of me but so far this book is very good and keeps the reader interested throughout the whole novel.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading Final Four by Paul Volponi for my independent reading book right now. I chose this book because i really like to read sports and I can related to this book because I play sports as well and it these books interest me because its what I like to do. This book is about two college basketball teams that are in the semifinals of the NCAA March Madness tournament that happens every year. The two teams are Michigan State University and the University of Troy. Its all about how no predicted that the University of Troy was going to make it to the semifinals of the tournament and how they are the underdog going into the game. The book also highlights two players from each school and tells their story of how they got here. So far, I am really liking this book because it really keeps me entertained with the plot and the stories of the two highlighted players from the two schools. I still have a lot of reading to do still, but I am definitely looking forward to keep reading this book.
ReplyDeleteI am reading "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline, I chose this book because I heard about the future movie adaption on a YouTube news channel. The hosts of the show said that they liked the book, and were excited for it to be created on the big screen. They explained the plot, and the book became stuck in the back of my mind. Then, in Ms. McMasters class I saw RPO on her bookshelf, and I decided that it would become my Independent Reading book. It is about a futuristic world, 2045, which is dominated by war, poverty, and virtual-reality. The master genius behind the major virtual-reality world, OASIS, had died, and he hid three eggs in OASIS. Whoever found those eggs would inherit the massive estate that the late genius creator had amassed. The novel follows eighteen-year-old and his quest to find the three eggs to escape the crappy real world he was born into.
ReplyDeleteA book I had just recently read was The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks. I had chosen this book because I had read many other books by the same other and fell in love with each one of them. I loved this book because the characters were so relatable and I found the story beautiful. The book is about two very different couples that end up crossing paths and greatly impacting each others lives. Each chapter changed narrators; one being the young girl telling the ups and downs of her new love story and the other of the older man reminiscing about the ups and downs of his. The characters in this story were so lovable and the way the story just fell together was perfect. I loved this book and enjoy reading others just like it; I even thought it was way better than the movie.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading "Matched" by Ally Condie. One of my friends recommended this book to me because she knew I enjoy reading books about dystopian societies. This book is about a girl named Cassia who gets matched, hence the book name, with a person in her society. She will soon have to marry this match of hers and have children in the future. Cassia has to figure out how she is going to adapt to her match and think for the future. She is already facing many weird situations that are oddly interesting. So far this book is very interesting. I feel like it has a very different and original plot to it. It is very similar to "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, but also very different. I really am hooked to this book which is unusual for me to actually want to keep reading books. I don't want to put this book down. I can't wait to read the rest of the book and see how the story unravels and how Cassia's future will look like.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am currently reading for independent reading is The Book of the Dead, by Patricia Cornwell. I just recently started this book, but so far it is very interesting. I randomly picked it up in the library and saw it was a book written by Patricia Cornwell, who is one of my mom’s favorite authors, so I decided to give it a try. So far, the basis of the book was set by opening up with a very intense, descriptive, terrifying scene of a murderer and a famous young athlete in Italy, before he actually killed her. At first it was confusing, but then it switched over to days later when the athlete was found dead. Now, Italy’s best investigation workers are on the case, including Scarletta, the main character. I think this book is good, although I’m not that far into it.
ReplyDeleteThe independent reading book I am currently reading is House Rules by Jodi Picoult. I chose this book because my sister read it and she loved both the book and the author, Picoult is now my sisters favorite author. So far the book is about a 18 year old boy, named Jacob, who has Asperger's syndrome. Jacob loves to solve crime and mysteries. Jacob has a police scanner so he follows the police when there are crimes and the police often ask for his help and support while solving the case. So far I really like the book and I would recommend it to others who are looking for a book to read.
ReplyDeleteCurrently, the book I am reading is The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. I am reading this book because for the past x amount of years, the book has been advertised (until recently when I almost forgot about the book/ movie existed) and everybody says that it was a great read and movie which I have not seen yet. Therefore when I saw the book in the library, I could not think of a reason not to pick it up. The book is about a boy named Pi who grew up in a zoo in India, whose family decides to move to North America (along with their zoo). However the book ends up sinking, and he ends up on a lifeboat with a few animals and has to manage to live with them in order to survive. So far the book seems pretty original and absorbing which is what you look for in any book, so overall it is a great read.
ReplyDeleteI recently finished Ambition by Natalie Keller Reinert. I picked this book because it was about horses and about eventing. I was able to connect to the book because having to deal with crazy horses is something that I have to do on a daily basis. The book is about a girl who passed by college to go ride into training event horses, though out the book she is dealing with a crazy horse, a storm destroying her farm and not having enough money to cover it all. This is a story about passion and devotion and dedication to the sport. She had to learn how to listen to her horse and take help from others. I really loved the book, I want to read some of her other books.
